A former teacher has been sentenced to eight years in prison after being found guilty of a series of child sex offences.
Saeed Haq, aged 58, was convicted of nine counts of sexual assault following a trial earlier this year.
He was acquitted of one count.
The allegations concern the sexual abuse of a teenage girl over a period of seven years.
The court heard that the abuse began with Haq massaging the victim's thighs, which escalated to touching her in other intimate areas, highlighting a significant disparity in age.
The victim, now an adult, read a statement to the court describing her ongoing torment and psychological impact, stating she is "tormented by the memory of the abuse" and has difficulty forming relationships, feeling dirty and worthless.
Despite the jury's verdicts, Haq maintains his innocence.
His defense highlighted his 20 years as an educated teacher and mentioned he has struggled with mental health issues, including suicide attempts, which he has tried to address while in custody.
Court proceedings acknowledged Haq's earlier physical abuse as a child and prior convictions for juvenile burglary.
The judge, Recorder Khan KC, sentenced Haq to eight years' imprisonment, noting the seriousness of the offences.
