SABER ALI CAUGHT IN SUNDERRLAND BY PAEDOPHILE HUNTERS AFTER PLOTTING TO MEET 14-YEAR-OLD

In May 2018, a disturbing case unfolded in Sunderland involving a married man named Saber Ali, who was ultimately sentenced to prison after being caught in a sting operation conducted by paedophile hunters.

The incident highlights the dangers posed by online predators and the efforts of vigilant groups to protect vulnerable children.

Ali, a 45-year-old resident of Tatham Street in the East End of Sunderland, believed he was engaging in a clandestine online conversation with a 14-year-old girl.

The conversation took place on a Scout social media app, where Ali thought he was communicating with a young schoolgirl.

He expressed a desire to meet her in person, asking, “Can I come to your home for sex?” Despite being repeatedly told that the girl was underage and inexperienced, Ali continued to send explicit messages, including graphic images and detailed descriptions of what he wanted to do to her.

At one point, when the girl refused to send a nude photograph, Ali declared, “I’m your BF now,” using a social media term for boyfriend, further indicating his inappropriate intentions.

The court heard that within just seven hours of initiating contact on July 26 of the previous year, Ali traveled to Chapman Street, located off Sea Road in Sunderland, intending to meet the girl.

However, he was confronted by members of Guardians of the North, a group of paedophile hunters who pose as children online to catch predators.

The group had set up the Scout profile under a fictitious name to lure Ali.

Once he arrived at the designated meeting spot, the group apprehended him and alerted the police.

Ali was taken into custody, during which he claimed he had no malicious intent and intended only to tell the girl to “go home.” Following his arrest, Ali faced charges of attempting to meet a child following sexual grooming.

During the court proceedings at Newcastle Crown Court, he pleaded guilty to these charges.

The judge, Penny Moreland, sentenced him to 15 months in prison, accompanied by a five-year sexual harm prevention order and a 10-year registration on the sex offenders’ register.

Judge Moreland detailed the timeline of Ali’s actions, noting that at 3:45 pm, Ali was told by the fictitious girl that she was 14 years old.

By 5 pm, he was asking her for naked images and suggesting sexual activity.

The judge emphasized that Ali had arranged to meet the girl at 10 pm that evening, with the clear intention of engaging in sexual intercourse.

“I am quite satisfied that what you had in mind that night was to have sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old girl,” she stated.

Furthermore, the judge dismissed Ali’s legal team’s request for the sentence to be suspended, asserting that an immediate custodial sentence was appropriate given the gravity of his intentions.

“In my view, an immediate custodial sentence is the only appropriate sentence for someone who arranges to have sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old girl,” she concluded, underscoring the seriousness of the crime and the need for deterrence.
