SAAD SHEIKH SENTENCED IN COVENTRY FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT NEAR JEPHSON GARDENS IN LEAMINGTON
A man from Coventry has been formally sentenced to prison after committing a sexual assault against a woman in Leamington last year.Saad Sheikh, aged 30 and residing at The Spinney in Coventry, pleaded guilty to two counts of sexually assaulting a stranger during an incident that occurred on the evening of August 1, 2020.
According to reports, the victim, a woman in her 40s, was sitting peacefully on a bench near Jephson Gardens when Sheikh approached and sat down beside her.
Without her consent, he proceeded to touch her over and under her clothing, committing a sexual assault that left her distressed and traumatized.
The assault was captured on CCTV footage, which played a crucial role in identifying Sheikh.
Following the identification, authorities arrested Sheikh five days after the incident.
His arrest was part of a coordinated effort to bring justice for the victim and ensure public safety.
During a hearing at Warwick Crown Court held on September 29, Sheikh was sentenced to 30 months in prison.
In addition to his custodial sentence, he was ordered to sign the sex offenders register for life, a measure that ensures he remains under supervision for the foreseeable future.
Furthermore, Sheikh was issued a 10-year sexual harm prevention order.
This order restricts him from engaging in any paid or unpaid work involving vulnerable individuals, aiming to prevent any potential future offenses.
Detective Constable Nic Mort from Leamington CID emphasized the severity of the case, stating, "This was a terrible ordeal for the victim, who is an extremely vulnerable woman.
The judge was clear that Sheikh would have been aware of her vulnerabilities and targeted her because of this.
The ordeal left her distraught and traumatised." Detective Mort also praised the victim for her bravery and dignity throughout the investigation, acknowledging the courage it took to come forward and cooperate with law enforcement.
