RYAN THORNTON AND SHOCKING MURDER IN BOURNEMOUTH
A man identified as Ryan Thornton has been sentenced to life imprisonment following a brutal murder that took place in Bournemouth. The incident involved the killing of his flatmate, 34-year-old Stela Domador-Kuzma, a Venezuelan national, in their shared residence during the early hours of July 8.
According to court reports, Thornton, who was 20 years old at the time, committed the murder after a day spent consuming alcohol and cannabis.
On July 7, he watched the England versus Sweden World Cup match at a local pub, then purchased lager and gin before returning to their flat in Richmond Gardens.
Witnesses noted that Thornton was known to be addicted to dark and violent pornography, which played a significant role in the events that unfolded.
In the early morning hours of July 8, Thornton was found in a nearby street with injuries, including a stab wound to his knee and hands.
He was promptly taken to a hospital for treatment.
Police officers responded to the scene at the shared four-bedroom property, which featured a communal kitchen and bathroom but had locked bedrooms.
Inside the flat, they discovered the lifeless body of Ms.
Domador-Kuzma, covered in blood, having suffered a prolonged struggle.
The victim had been attacked while in her bed, sustaining 17 stab wounds across her neck, chest, left arm, and leg.
Her vest top had been forcibly cut off with scissors.
The investigation revealed that the attack was particularly violent and impulsive.
Evidence collected from Thornton’s laptop showed a disturbing collection of violent and forced sexual pornography, including images of children, which contributed to the court’s understanding of his mental state.
Prosecutor Matthew Jewell QC described Ms.
Domador-Kuzma as a well-educated, well-traveled individual who worked for Barclays Bank and volunteered with a disabled watersports group.
She was characterized as a warm, confident, and joyful person, always smiling and easy to get along with.
It was noted that she had no romantic relationship with Thornton and had described him as untidy and dirty.
During the trial, Thornton pleaded guilty to murder and 11 charges of possessing child pornography.
The judge, Mrs.
Justice May, sentenced him to a minimum of 22 years and six months in prison at Winchester Crown Court.
She remarked that Thornton’s actions were impulsive, describing his decision to commit the murder as a misguided attempt to “make a present to himself on his 20th birthday of violent forced sex.” The judge also expressed sympathy for the terror and bewilderment experienced by Ms.
Domador-Kuzma during her attack.
Defense counsel Nigel Lickley QC argued that Thornton was lonely and isolated, suggesting that he had planned to enact some form of sexual fantasy but reacted in panic when she screamed.
He admitted that Thornton had undressed Ms.
Domador-Kuzma and engaged in a single act of sexual gratification amid the chaos.
A statement from the victim’s mother, Olga, was read aloud in court, describing her daughter as someone who left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
Olga emphasized that her daughter was a joyful person with a sassy smile who embraced life fully, and her memory would forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her.
