On December 31st, 2022, Ryan Thomas, a 31-year-old man from York, was sentenced to prison for the second time within the same year after he deliberately disobeyed a court-imposed restraining order designed to protect his former girlfriend. The court heard that Thomas’s persistent and unwelcome attention had a severe impact on the woman’s mental health, to the extent that she had contemplated taking her own life.
