MANSFIELD MAN JAILED FOR BREACHING STALKING ORDER AFTER POLICE FIND SUSPICIOUS SNAPCHAT MESSAGES
A convicted stalker from Mansfield has been jailed for breaching a court order after officers caught him messaging young women on Snapchat.Ryan Smith, 22, was issued a legal ban in October 2024 following a conviction for stalking.
The order was meant to protect other women, including his victim, and made it illegal for him to contact her and her family, as well as requiring him to disclose any relationships to police.
Despite this, four months later, police discovered various suspicious notifications on Smith's phone during an investigation, indicating a possible undisclosed relationship.
At Nottingham Magistrates Court on Thursday, February 13, Smith admitted to two counts of breaching the order and was sentenced to six months in jail.
PC Ryan Ward of Nottinghamshire Police stated, "Stalking Protection Orders are an extremely useful tool that are increasingly used to protect the public from harm.
As Smith has just found out to his cost, the courts take an extremely dim view of those who flout them in this way.
I hope this outcome serves not only as a reminder to victims about how seriously we take the issue of stalking, but also as a warning to others with similar orders about the consequences of ignoring them."
