OLDMELDRUM MAN ADMITS TO SHARING FISH-THEMED OBSCENE VIDEO
An Oldmeldrum man named Ryan McKenzie has admitted to distributing obscene material after sharing a video clip via WhatsApp.The video in question was a one minute and 29 second footage showing a fish carcass being used sexually on a woman.
McKenzie, aged 40, stated that he sent the clip to friends 'as a joke' and was unaware that sharing such material was a crime under law.
The incident was uncovered after police traced the video back to him during an investigation into another matter.
McKenzie appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court where he pleaded guilty to a charge of distributing obscene material.
Sheriff Ian Wallace ordered him to pay a fine of £155 within 28 days.
During court proceedings, McKenzie explained that his actions were a wrongful joke and insisted that 'it’s not been a fetish thing or anything.' His solicitor described him as a 'decent man' and highlighted that the case was an unfortunate, one-off mistake.
The solicitor also emphasized that a conviction could have 'astronomical' consequences for his client, who needs to apply for visas for international work.
Ultimately, the court fined McKenzie for the offence, considering his explanation and guilty plea.
