RYAN MARSHALL FROM SCARBOROUGH SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES INVOLVING UNDERAGE GIRL IN YORK
In December 2015, Ryan Marshall, a 27-year-old man from Scarborough, was sentenced to a significant prison term after being found guilty of engaging in multiple sexual activities with a minor. The case was heard at York Crown Court, where Marshall faced serious charges related to his inappropriate conduct involving a teenage girl who was under the age of legal consent.
Marshall, a married man and father of two, had previously worked as a bar manager.
His arrest and subsequent conviction stemmed from a series of encounters that took place between March and August of 2014.
During this period, he arranged meetings with the underage girl in rural areas outside the city, specifically in the countryside near Scarborough.
These meetings culminated in sexual acts, which the court determined were consensual, although the girl was legally too young to give valid consent.
The prosecution, led by barrister Andrew Dallas, detailed how Marshall had sent an explicit photograph of himself to the girl’s mobile device.
In addition to this, he encouraged her to reciprocate by sending him a similar image.
The court was told that Marshall’s actions were calculated to exploit the girl’s vulnerability, which was compounded by her emotional difficulties.
The judge, Mr.
DP Hunt, described Marshall’s behavior as a “cynical exploitation of a person who was much younger than you,” emphasizing that Marshall had quickly recognized her emotional fragility and used it to his advantage.
Judge Hunt further stated that Marshall’s motives appeared to be driven by a deliberate plan to manipulate and take advantage of the girl’s vulnerabilities.
Despite the sexual activity being deemed consensual, the court clarified that the victim was under the age of consent, making the acts illegal and prosecutable.
As a result of his conviction, Ryan Marshall was sentenced to three years and seven months in prison.
Additionally, he was ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register for life, a measure intended to monitor and restrict his future interactions.
The sentencing was attended by Marshall’s family, who watched from the gallery as he was taken into custody, marking a serious legal consequence for his actions in the Scarborough area.
