IRVINE MAN SENTENCED TO 10 YEARS FOR VIOLENT RAPE AND SEXUAL ASSAULT
A violent offender, Ryan Graham, 27, from Irvine, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for serious sexual assaults. He was convicted after a trial at the High Court in Glasgow of sexually assaulting his ex-lover during an argument in March 2017.
Despite being on bail with court-imposed restrictions not to approach her, Graham returned to her home and committed a brutal rape on March 10.
The victim, who was vulnerable and later tragically took her own life, provided police with detailed statements and a letter describing the attack.
The letter revealed that Graham had threatened her with a small knife and coerced her into sex, describing her feelings of distress and fear.
During the trial, evidence included her cries of distress, descriptions of Graham pulling her clothing and attacking her physically.
The court acknowledged the heartbreaking account and evidence of her distress, leading to Graham’s conviction.
The judge described his crimes as 'appalling' and noted the victim’s vulnerability, sentencing Graham to a decade behind bars.
Graham is now registered as a sex offender.
He denied the charges, claiming any sexual encounters were consensual, and his legal team argued that his rights were infringed by certain trial procedures.
Despite his claims of innocence and grief over his previous relationship, the court upheld the conviction based on the substantial evidence presented.
