2014: TWISTED OLDBURY STALKER JAILED AFTER HARASSED EX KILLED HERSELF
In November of the previous year, Ryan Dey was arrested a month after the tragic death of Kamaljit Sidhu, who had jumped from a bridge on the M6 route. The ex-partner was suffering from unreciprocated feelings and refused to accept their breakup, making threats, seeking her out by contacting her friends, and searching for her at various locations.
Dey, aged 23, faced stalking charges which he admitted during a court session at Birmingham Crown Court on March 21.
Court reports detailed that Dey, a lorry driver from Hollyoak Close, Oldbury, had been involved with Kamaljit for approximately 18 months before she attempted to end their relationship in October 2013.
After her breakup, Kamaljit made social media posts indicating she was frightened of Ryan before she took her own life on October 25.
Following the hearing, her mother, Sarbjit Sidhu, expressed her outrage, questioning whether Dey recognized the harm he had caused her daughter and their family.
She shared that they would never forget Kamaljit and spoke of how difficult it was not to see her alive again before her burial.
Sarbjit described Dey as malevolent, a bully, and a coward who subjected Kamaljit to control and abuse, and she emphasized that he would never be forgiven.
She called for awareness to prevent similar tragedies in the future, sharing that their lives have been frozen in grief and they feel overwhelmed.
Detective Chief Inspector Kim Madill from the West Midlands Police Public Protection Unit said the investigation was both difficult and emotionally taxing.
She highlighted the dedication of her team in pursuing justice for Kamaljit, noting that although justice cannot revive her, Dey’s guilty plea and subsequent imprisonment offer some sense of closure to her family.
She also pointed out that prosecuting a case where the victim could not testify is rare and demanding, but successful prosecution provides some relief.
Martin Lindop, the Sector Crown Prosecutor for the West Midlands CPS, commented that Dey’s social media stalking had a profound impact on Kamaljit’s daily life.
His disturbing actions in her final days caused her fear of someone she had previously trusted and loved, ultimately leading to her self-inflicted death, marking a tragic end to the ordeal.
