MANCHESTER MAN SENTENCED TO PRISON FOR VIOLENT ASSAULT ON EX-GIRLFRIEND
A man named Ryan Bibby has been sentenced to 15 months in prison for causing actual bodily harm during a violent incident at his ex-partner's home in Manchester. The victim, Kiesha Watkin, aged 24, recounted that Bibby attacked her, slapping, hitting her in the face, and attempting to strangle and headbutt her.
Despite her injuries, Kiesha managed to secretly call 999, and help arrived after the call was traced.
Bibby had previously admitted to assaulting her last month and was jailed for the assault.
The encounter began after Kiesha invited Bibby to their son's first birthday celebration, despite their separation.
The event seemed peaceful at first, but later turned tense when Bibby produced a bottle of wine and became intoxicated, which escalated into violence.
Kiesha described how Bibby, in a drunken state, punched her repeatedly, strangled her, headbutted her, and pushed her into a corner of the kitchen while towering over her.
She said, “He was towering over me and piling punches into my face and my head.” She also showed where he strangled her in the attack.
Bibby, aged 26, pleaded guilty to causing actual bodily harm at Manchester Minshull Street in April.
During the sentencing, Judge John Potter emphasized that regardless of whether Bibby had been harmed in the past, this provides no excuse for his violent behavior, stating, “You acted entirely inappropriately and, bluntly, in a physically abusive manner in an incident of repeated and sustained violence.” The judge also noted Bibby's history of previous convictions, totaling 17.
Kiesha expressed her devastation, saying, “I trusted Ryan to come to our son’s birthday and he threw it all back in my face.
I wanted him to be a part of his son’s life.
But I can see now that me and my children are better off without him.
I want him out of our lives for good.” The violent incident resulted in injuries including a black eye, bruising, and damage to her phone, which she was trying to use to call police.
Kiesha detailed how Bibby, in a drunken rage, began breaking plates, hit himself over the head with a bottle, and then physically attacked her—piling punches, strangling her, and head-butting her.
She described being backed into a corner in the kitchen, where he strangled her with his hands.
After trying to intervene, she managed to call the police covertly while Bibby tried to cover up, even attempting to convince the officers she had walked into a door.
Bibby, who is from Manchester, has a criminal record with 17 previous offenses and was sentenced to serve 15 months.
Kiesha expressed her hope to move on, stating, “Now, I never want to see him again.
I had always believed that he should play a role in our son’s life, but not anymore.
He ruined the memory of his first birthday and that is something I cannot forgive.” This case highlights the ongoing issue of domestic violence, and support services such as Refuge and Women’s Aid are available for victims seeking help.
