Long Hanborough Animal Abuser
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Long Hanborough, Russell Winstone, born on November 5, 1979, and residing on Church Road, was convicted in 2018 for subjecting a dog to multiple severe and violent attacks. The incident involved the dog, named Bella, who was under Winstone's care temporarily while his cousin was unavailable. The court proceedings detailed the horrifying treatment Bella endured during two separate episodes of violence, which resulted in significant injuries.

Winstone, who also played football for the local team Hailey FC, admitted to causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal, a charge that underscores the seriousness of his actions. The court was presented with graphic footage showing Winstone losing his temper and violently throwing Bella across a room in a fit of rage. In another disturbing act, he was seen slamming a door into the defenseless dog. These acts of violence left Bella with blunt force trauma to her skull, an oral hematoma, and multiple lacerations, indicating the brutality of the attacks.

Following the incident, Winstone was taken into custody by police. During questioning, he explained that his violent actions were triggered by frustration after Bella urinated on his sofa. He admitted to throwing her across the room and explained that he had shut the door on her because he was 'frustrated.' The court heard that Winstone's behavior was not an isolated moment of anger but part of a pattern of violence.

Prior to sentencing, a report from the national probation service was read aloud in court. The report revealed that Winstone showed 'no remorse' for his actions during an interview, further highlighting his lack of empathy or acknowledgment of the harm caused.

As part of his sentence, Winstone was ordered to complete 200 hours of unpaid community work and participate in a 20-day rehabilitation program. Additionally, he was required to pay costs and charges amounting to £285. Most notably, Winstone was banned from owning or caring for any animals for a period of 10 years, a restriction that will remain in effect until August 2028. This case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of animal welfare and the consequences faced by those who commit acts of cruelty.
