MET POLICE OFFICER CHARGED WITH RAPING WOMAN
A Metropolitan Police officer has been formally charged with raping a woman during his off-duty hours, according to Scotland Yard.PC Rupert Edwards, who serves with the South West Command Unit, was charged on 19 March after an investigation into allegations made earlier in 2023.
He is scheduled to appear before Westminster Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.
The officer has been suspended from his duties, and the police's Directorate of Professional Standards has been notified of the charges.
The case has attracted considerable public and media interest, raising ongoing concerns about misconduct in the police force.
