RUNAKL DELECIA JAILED FOR RAPE IN BRISTOL AND SOUTHAMPTON

In a serious criminal case that has garnered significant attention, Runakl Delecia, a 45-year-old man from Bristol, has been convicted of raping a 17-year-old girl in Southampton city centre. The incident took place in the early hours of Sunday, April 9, 2023, and the case has since been thoroughly investigated and prosecuted.

Delecia appeared before Southampton Crown Court on Friday, March 21, 2025, to receive his sentence after being found guilty of the heinous crime earlier that month. The court proceedings revealed disturbing details about the incident, which occurred in the vicinity of Carlton Place, a well-known area in Southampton's bustling city centre.

The court was informed that the victim, who is now 19 years old, was only 17 at the time of the assault. According to the evidence presented, she was approached by Delecia around 1:30 a.m. in the Carlton Place area. Witnesses and CCTV footage confirmed that Delecia was seen leading the young girl away from the busy street and towards Carlton Crescent, a nearby location.

Security personnel working in the area quickly identified Delecia on the CCTV footage, which played a crucial role in his subsequent arrest. Police officers responded swiftly and apprehended him, charging him with the offence of rape. Delecia maintained his innocence throughout the investigation, denying any involvement in the crime.

Following a six-day trial at Southampton Crown Court, the jury deliberated and reached a verdict on Monday, March 3. They found Delecia guilty of the serious charge of rape, leading to his sentencing. The court sentenced him to seven years and three months in prison, reflecting the gravity of his actions and the impact on the victim.

This case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement and judicial authorities to combat sexual violence and ensure justice for victims. The community in Southampton and Bristol can only hope that such measures serve as a deterrent to others contemplating similar crimes.
