SWINDON SEX OFFENDERS ROYSTON GONSALVES AND FILBERT ANTAO SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEXUAL OFFENCES
In a significant case that has shocked the community of Swindon, two men, Royston Gonsalves and Filbert Antao, have been formally sentenced for their involvement in disturbing sexual offences committed against young girls in the area.The proceedings took place at Swindon Crown Court, where both offenders faced justice for their heinous actions.
Royston Gonsalves, aged 25 and residing on Ponting Street in Swindon, along with 22-year-old Filbert Antao of Axbridge Close, Swindon, were charged with multiple counts of engaging in sexual activity with minors.
Specifically, they faced four counts each, relating to their inappropriate and illegal conduct involving three female victims, aged 13 and 14 at the time of the offences.
Both men had previously entered guilty pleas during an earlier hearing, acknowledging their involvement in these serious crimes.
Today, the court handed down a sentence of seven years imprisonment to each of the offenders, reflecting the gravity of their crimes and the need for justice for the victims.
The sentencing marks a significant step in addressing the exploitation and abuse of vulnerable children within the community.
Following the sentencing, Superintendent Andrew Carr issued a statement emphasizing the severity of the case.
He stated, “Gonsalves and Antao preyed on these vulnerable children and exploited them for their own sexual gratification.
Both sexually abused the children on several occasions during a prolonged cycle of manipulation and abuse.” Superintendent Carr also expressed admiration for the bravery of the young victims, saying, “I would like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to these young victims who have shown courage and bravery by coming forward and reporting the horrific abuse they were being subjected to.” He further highlighted the collaborative efforts of law enforcement and partner agencies, noting, “This case is a good example of us working with partner agencies and charities to bring the most dangerous sexual offenders to justice whilst supporting and rehabilitating the young victims.” Superintendent Carr urged anyone who might have been a victim of sexual assault to come forward, reassuring the public that Wiltshire Police have specially trained officers ready to assist.
He advised, “I would urge anyone who has been the victim of any sexual assault to contact Wiltshire Police immediately – we have dedicated officers who are specially trained to help those who have been abused.” Members of the community are encouraged to report any suspicions or incidents of abuse by calling 101 or anonymously through Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.
