Dunmow Child Sexual Abuser
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Dunmow, Roy Stockell, a 59-year-old senior management figure at Ernst and Young, has been sentenced to prison for possessing a collection of highly disturbing and illegal images and videos depicting child abuse. The case, which unfolded in July 2017, revealed the extent of Stockell's involvement in the possession and distribution of indecent material involving minors.

Stockell was found to have stored these illicit materials across three different devices, which contained a total of 15 movies and over 200 indecent images. The images and videos depicted children ranging in age from six to 15 years old, with some of the most severe content classified as Category A, indicating the most serious level of abuse. Prosecutor Samantha Lowther detailed to the court that Stockell possessed seven Category A movies, alongside six Category B and two Category C movies. In addition, there were 25 Category A still images, 58 Category B, and 129 Category C images, all of which were described by Judge John Seeley as 'appalling.'

One particularly disturbing image involved penetrative activity with a female child believed to be between six and eight years old. The severity of the material was underscored by the judge, who emphasized the heinous nature of the content Stockell had in his possession.

Further investigations revealed that Stockell had created an email account under the pseudonym 'Englishman in New York 2000.' He also engaged in regular conversations via Skype with other individuals involved in child pornography and abuse, indicating a level of active participation and communication within a network of offenders.

During the court proceedings, Stockell attempted to justify his actions by claiming that he did not derive sexual gratification from the images or videos. He stated that his interest was rooted in a history of childhood abuse himself. However, Judge John Seeley was quick to dismiss this explanation, describing it as a 'cock and bull story.' The judge pointed out that the majority of the images were of female children, which contradicted Stockell's claim and suggested that his lie was obvious and unconvincing.

Stockell's defense also included concerns about the potential impact of his conviction on his future employment prospects. Nonetheless, Judge Seeley admonished him, stating that he should have considered the consequences before engaging in such illegal activities. The judge emphasized that anyone would recognize the deep wrongfulness of viewing and possessing such material, especially when it involved children.

Ultimately, Roy Stockell was sentenced to eight months in prison for all three counts, with the sentences to run concurrently. Additionally, he was ordered to pay a fine of £140 and will be subject to a ten-year Sexual Offences Prevention Order, which aims to restrict his future conduct and prevent further offenses of this nature. The case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing efforts by authorities to combat child exploitation and the importance of vigilance within communities like Dunmow.
