ROXANNE BROWN OF FIFE SENTENCED AFTER DOMESTIC ABUSE INCIDENTS IN DUNFERMLINE
A 42-year-old woman from Fife, Roxanne Brown, has been brought before Dunfermline Sheriff Court to face sentencing after admitting to a series of abusive behaviors directed towards her former husband over a period exceeding two years. The disturbing pattern of violence and intimidation culminated in a serious incident where her partner was found unconscious and with visible injuries, prompting urgent intervention from friends and authorities.
Brown, who resides on Broad Street in Cowdenbeath, had a tumultuous relationship with her husband, which lasted for six years before their separation.
The couple married in 2018, but their relationship was marred by repeated episodes of violence and conflict.
Prosecutor Azrah Yousaf detailed to the court that the abusive episodes occurred at their shared residence in Dunfermline, with the first two incidents taking place over a year apart.
During these episodes, Brown reportedly slapped her husband following heated arguments and accusations of infidelity, which she believed he was guilty of.
The court was informed that in October 2022, friends of Brown received a distressing phone call from her, in which she simply stated, “I have done it again.” Concerned, they went to her address and found her husband lying on the floor, unconscious and with lumps on his head.
He was described as being in a state of distress, curled up on the sofa, and took approximately five minutes to regain consciousness.
Witnesses attempted to rouse him, but he could not recall much about the incident, only that it had begun with an argument that escalated to physical violence, specifically Brown slapping him.
During the court proceedings, defence lawyer Andrew Docherty acknowledged that the relationship had ended and highlighted Brown’s efforts to turn her life around.
Since the incidents, she has engaged actively with her community, volunteering with a local charity and the Salvation Army since July of this year.
Docherty also explained that Brown is a first-time offender, currently unemployed, and struggles with anxiety, depression, and alcohol issues, which he described as contributing factors to her offending behavior.
In sentencing, Sheriff Susan Duff opted for a community-based punishment rather than imprisonment.
Brown was ordered to complete 225 hours of unpaid work and was also given a two-year ban on contacting her ex-husband, aiming to prevent further incidents and promote her rehabilitation.
The court’s decision reflects a recognition of her efforts to amend her behavior while addressing the seriousness of her actions within the context of domestic abuse.
