DOMESTIC VIOLENCE OFFENDER ROSS TAPPENDEN HANDED JAIL SENTENCE
A violent offender identified as Ross Tappenden has been involved in sustained domestic violence against his partner of three years, despite having been released from prison just weeks prior. The 41-year-old man subjected his partner to regular physical abuse, including smashing her head against doors, grabbing her by the throat, and repeatedly hitting her in the head and face.
At one point, he told her, “she would never be safe,” if she reported the abuse to the police, and threatened to have her followed by friends and family.
The victim was found distressed, with a black eye, after police intervened.
Tappenden had previously served a two-year sentence for domestic incidents involving the same woman but was out in April 2020 and rekindled their relationship.
The court heard about incidents in May and June 2020 where he assaulted her multiple times, including striking her head against walls and doors, and punching her.
The abuse escalated in later incidents, with Tappenden threatening her safety and attempting to intimidate her into silence.
He appeared via video link from HMP Grampian where he’s been remanded since admitting to the past violent behavior.
The court noted the severity of his actions, with Sheriff Philip Mann imposing a five-month sentence, backdated to August, along with a five-year suspended sentence, reflecting the serious risk posed to the victim’s health and well-being.
