ROSS SMITH FROM BECCLES SENTENCED TO 10 YEARS IN PRISON FOR SEXUAL ABUSE IN SUFFOLK
A man from Suffolk, Ross Smith, aged 33, of Banham Road, Beccles, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for sexually abusing a young girl.Smith appeared before Ipswich Crown Court on Monday for sentencing after being previously convicted of three offences.
He denied three counts of causing or inciting a girl under 13 to engage in sexual activity but was found guilty by a jury during the trial.
The abuse occurred between 2018 and 2019.
The court was informed that Smith had no prior similar convictions.
During the sentencing, the victim's mother described Smith’s actions as "despicable" and shared the impact it had on her daughter and their family, as read aloud by prosecutor Andrew Thompson.
Judge Emma Peters sentenced Smith to 10 years in prison, with an extended licence period of five years.
Smith is required to serve at least two-thirds of his sentence before being eligible for parole.
Additionally, the judge ordered Smith to register as a sex offender for life and imposed an indefinite sexual harm prevention order.
