ROSS SIMMONDS SENTENCED IN LEICESTER FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES AND INDECENT IMAGES
In July 2018, a disturbing case involving a man named Ross Simmonds unfolded in Leicester, highlighting the serious issue of child sexual exploitation and possession of indecent images.Simmonds, aged 28 and without a fixed address at the time, appeared before Leicester Crown Court to face the consequences of his actions.
He had previously admitted to multiple charges and was now being sentenced for his crimes.
Specifically, Simmonds pleaded guilty to eight counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child, as well as three counts of possessing indecent images of children.
The case came to light after Leicestershire Police received reports in March of this year concerning an inappropriate relationship between Simmonds and a young girl, who was then 14 years old.
An investigation was swiftly launched, revealing the disturbing nature of the relationship and the extent of Simmonds's misconduct.
During the court proceedings, it was established that the victim was now 15 years old, and the relationship had involved inappropriate and illegal sexual activity.
The police's investigation uncovered evidence of Simmonds's possession of indecent images, further compounding the severity of his offences.
The court heard how Simmonds had taken advantage of the girl’s youth and emotional vulnerability, exploiting her innocence for his own gratification.
In sentencing, Leicester Crown Court handed Simmonds a prison term of six years.
Additionally, he was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for life, a measure designed to monitor and restrict his activities post-release.
The court also imposed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for a period of ten years, aiming to prevent any future harm or reoffending.
Commenting on the case, Detective Constable Chris Perry emphasized the predatory nature of Simmonds’s actions.
He stated, “Simmonds preyed on his young victim, taking advantage of her youth and emotional inexperience.
He knew what he was doing was wrong, but this didn’t stop him from pursuing a sexual relationship with her.” The case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to protect vulnerable children from exploitation and to hold offenders accountable for their actions.
