ROSEMARY LAING FROM BUCKSBURN SHOCKS COURT WITH CHILD ABUSE AND VIOLENCE IN ABERDEEN

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Bucksburn and the wider Aberdeen area, Rosemary Laing, a 53-year-old woman, was found guilty of a series of heinous acts involving a young girl and her former partner. The court proceedings revealed a pattern of prolonged abuse that spanned over eight years, beginning when the girl was only five years old.

Laing’s criminal actions came to light during a trial at Aberdeen Sheriff Court, where she was convicted of multiple counts of physical assault and abusive behavior. The court heard how she repeatedly subjected the young girl to physical harm, including striking her with a coat hanger and inflicting injuries that caused concern among the jurors. One particularly disturbing incident involved Laing placing the girl’s hand on a kitchen counter and stabbing between her fingers with a knife, all while threatening her with violence. This act of cruelty was just one of many that demonstrated her pattern of abuse.

The court also detailed how Laing would hold the girl’s hand down on the kitchen surface and then strike a knife between her fingers, a terrifying act that left the child in fear. These assaults were not isolated; they occurred at various locations, including Laing’s residence in Bucksburn, during a car journey, and even at a church in Aberdeen. The evidence presented painted a picture of ongoing physical and emotional torment inflicted upon the young victim.

In addition to her abuse of the child, Laing was convicted of violent behavior towards her former partner. Jurors learned that she had attempted to push him down a flight of stairs and had physically assaulted him on multiple occasions. Her violence extended to throwing household items, including a telephone that struck her partner on the head, causing injury. She also grabbed him around the neck, attempted to push him down stairs, and threw objects at him while shouting and swearing.

The court heard that Laing’s violent tendencies were not limited to her interactions with her partner but also included aggressive acts towards the young girl. She pushed her against a wall, struck her in the head and body, and threw a remote control at her. Her aggressive behavior culminated in her grabbing the girl around the neck and shoving her against a fridge, actions that caused significant concern for the child's safety.

Following her conviction, Sheriff Wallace imposed a series of penalties on Laing. Instead of a prison sentence, she was ordered to complete a 12-month payback order and perform 160 hours of unpaid work. Additionally, a non-harassment order was issued, prohibiting her from approaching the girl for ten months and her former partner for two years. Laing, who resides on Market Street in Bucksburn, was also barred from contact with the victims, ensuring their safety and preventing further harm.
