ROSEANNA LANGLEY SHOCKS EXETER WITH SEXUAL AFFAIR INVOLVING TEENAGE STUDENT

In a case that has sent shockwaves through the community of Exeter, a 24-year-old former teacher, Roseanna Langley, was involved in a scandalous sexual relationship with a teenage pupil, which lasted for approximately six weeks.

Despite her claims that the affair had ended, recent events have revealed that she was still in contact with the boy, leading to her arrest just two days prior to her sentencing.

Langley's inappropriate relationship with the 16-year-old student came to light after a series of disturbing revelations.

During the course of their affair, she bombarded him with hundreds of text messages and explicit photographs, some of which included suggestive language such as “baby please let me tie you up tomorrow it’s so sexy” and declarations of love like “babe I love planning our future together.” The extent of her emotional manipulation was further demonstrated by her tattooing the boy’s name on her body, a clear sign of her infatuation and the seriousness with which she engaged in the relationship.

It was established that Langley had previously admitted to two counts of engaging in sexual activity with a male aged between 13 and 17 while in a position of trust, which is a serious breach of professional conduct.

The court heard that she exchanged approximately 1,500 text messages with the boy, during which she expressed her willingness to risk her career, stating she “didn’t care if she got sacked so long as they could be together.” Witnesses, including fellow pupils at the school, described how the relationship appeared to continue beyond what was publicly known.

They recounted an incident where Langley hosted a cozy film night at her home with students, during which she and the 16-year-old were seen kissing and cuddling while watching movies.

The witnesses claimed that after the film, the pair retired to her bedroom, indicating a level of intimacy inappropriate for a teacher-student relationship.

Further disturbing details emerged when it was revealed that Langley had taken the boy on a romantic weekend getaway.

She also manipulated him emotionally by falsely claiming she was pregnant, then later told him she had suffered a miscarriage, a tactic that appeared designed to blackmail him into continuing their relationship.

Prosecutors stated that she discussed marriage, buying a dog, and having children with the boy, further illustrating the depth of her emotional involvement.

Concerns were raised when school colleagues became suspicious of the relationship, prompting police to investigate.

During their inquiry, officers searched Langley’s residence in Exeter and uncovered photographs of her and the boy, along with receipts from a romantic weekend in London.

Despite her insistence that the affair was over, she was found in her car with the boy just two days before her court appearance, leading to her arrest for an alleged breach of bail conditions.

However, police clarified that this was not technically a violation, as the boy was no longer a pupil at St James School and Langley had already been dismissed from her teaching position.

At Exeter Crown Court, Judge Paul Dunkels sentenced Langley to a suspended eight-month jail term and ordered her to complete 180 hours of community service.

The judge expressed strong disapproval of her actions, emphasizing her intelligence and awareness of the risks involved.

He condemned her for abandoning her judgment and professional integrity, stating that she had destroyed her future as a teacher.

The court also highlighted her manipulative behavior, including her false pregnancy claims, which constituted emotional blackmail and exploitation of the young boy.

Judge Dunkels remarked that Langley’s conduct was reckless not only for her own career and liberty but also for the well-being of the boy involved.

He pointed out that her actions were driven by a desire to boost her damaged self-esteem following a breakup with her fiancé, but this did not justify her misconduct.

The court detailed how she groomed the boy, who was only 15 when they first met, and how she exploited his trust and emotional vulnerability to sustain the relationship.

The relationship, which took place between January and March, was characterized by manipulation, false promises, and blackmail, including her claims of pregnancy and miscarriage.

Police investigations revealed that Langley had used her position of trust to initiate the relationship, which was kept secret from her colleagues.

The court heard that she and the boy discussed marriage, buying a dog, and having children together, further illustrating her emotional investment.

When suspicions arose among school staff, police were called, and the subsequent investigation uncovered evidence of their relationship, including photographs and receipts from their trip to London.

Following her guilty plea, Langley was dismissed from her teaching role, which she had never actively performed since the start of the affair.

As part of her sentence, she will be required to register as a sex offender for ten years and is permanently barred from working with children and young people.

Despite her ongoing contact with the victim, her actions have led to a significant legal and personal downfall, highlighting the serious consequences of abusing a position of trust in such a manner.
