RORY MILES SENTENCED TO FOUR YEARS IN PRISON FOR RAPE IN ESSEX
A man accused of inflicting a brutal and calculated sexual assault on a woman during a night out in Essex has been convicted and subsequently sentenced to prison.Rory Miles, aged 32 and a resident of Harris Green, Dunmow, was found guilty last month of sexually assaulting a woman at an address in Dunmow, Essex.
The incident took place after a night of socializing in late 2018, a time when the victim believed she was in a safe environment.
Unfortunately, her trust was betrayed by Miles, who proceeded to assault her.
The woman managed to escape from him and immediately called for help, demonstrating remarkable resilience despite the traumatic experience.
Following her report, an intensive investigation was launched by Essex police and supported by specialist officers from the Adult Sexual Abuse Investigation Team.
The thorough inquiry ultimately led to the charging of Rory Miles with multiple offences, including rape.
Although he faced five charges, the court reached a verdict on only one – he was found guilty of rape.
The remaining three charges will be preserved on file, as no verdict was reached on them.
On Monday, 27 March, at Chelmsford Crown Court, Rory Miles received a sentence of four years in imprisonment.
Additionally, he was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life, a legal requirement meant to monitor known sexual offenders and prevent further harm.
Detective Constable Jon Nottage, who led the investigation, expressed his commendation for the victim’s bravery throughout the ordeal.
He stated, “Firstly I would like to commend the woman involved in this case for her strength and dignity throughout this process, and I hope that this verdict will bring some comfort.” He also extended gratitude to the various agencies, witnesses, and the woman’s family and friends who provided unwavering support from the moment the incident was reported.
Detective Nottage emphasized, “Rory Miles was today convicted for the rape of this woman and sentenced to four years in prison.
“Miles is a cruel man.
On the night he preyed on a woman who believed she would be safe in his company.
Despite the evidence against him, he did not admit his guilt and maintained that everything that transpired was consensual and initiated by the victim.
“The jury carefully examined the evidence presented and, after deliberation, found him guilty of the rape charge.
Now, he faces a future behind bars.” The detective also addressed potential victims, encouraging anyone who has experienced sexual violence to come forward.
“I know that reporting such incidents is a challenging and sometimes frightening decision, but we are here to support you.
We can proceed at your own pace and connect you with numerous agencies that offer vital support,” he said.
Support services remain available for anyone affected by rape and sexual abuse.
