RORY DOYLE FROM CO KILDARE AND DUBLIN SENTENCED TO 12 YEARS FOR CHILD SEXUAL ASSAULTS IN FLORIDA

In a significant case that has spanned over a decade, Rory Doyle, a man with connections to both Co Kildare and Dublin, has been sentenced to a total of 12 years in prison following his guilty plea to charges of sexual assault against two young girls in Florida. The offences took place between September 1994 and July 2000, during which the victims, aged 13 and eight at the time, were subjected to Doyle’s heinous acts.

Rory Doyle, now 59 years old, had addresses listed at Donnybrook Manor, Belmont Avenue, Donnybrook, Dublin, as well as Sallins Bridge in Sallins, Co Kildare. His criminal activities came to light after he had been on the run for 12 years, fleeing the United States in 2001 just before his initial trial was scheduled to commence. Doyle managed to evade authorities for nearly a decade, living under the radar until he was finally located in Dublin in 2009.

During his time in Dublin, Doyle was practicing cosmetic surgery under the alias David West, a name he had legally changed by deed poll. His activities under this false identity drew the attention of the Medical Council, which subsequently removed him from the medical register, effectively ending his medical career in Ireland.

In January 2010, the Irish High Court ordered Doyle’s extradition to Florida to face the serious charges against him. Doyle appealed this decision, and while on bail, he was required to surrender his passport, reside in Donnybrook, and provide a substantial bond of €25,000 along with a surety of €100,000, which was posted by his then-89-year-old mother, Maura Doyle. Doyle was living with her in Donnybrook at the time.

Despite the legal proceedings, Doyle’s case faced further complications. In February 2012, he was scheduled to appear before the Supreme Court, but in December 2011, he was granted permission to take his passport to England for a week over Christmas, accompanied by his mother. During this period, Doyle was excused from signing in with authorities from December 21st to 29th. However, upon returning, his mother discovered he had vanished, and by January 2nd, she contacted the Gardaí in Donnybrook to report his disappearance.

Initially assured that the matter would be investigated, Gardaí did not visit her home until January 27th, when a warrant was issued for Doyle’s arrest. Unfortunately, Doyle’s mother lost the €100,000 surety she had posted, and the case drew criticism from the judiciary. Mr Justice Michael Peart publicly condemned the Gardaí, describing their handling of the situation as “a mockery of the process by which bail is applied for and granted.”

In November 2012, Doyle was located and arrested in Tangiers, Morocco. Moroccan authorities subsequently extradited him back to the United States, where the charges against him were pursued. Throughout the legal process, Doyle maintained his innocence, but he ultimately changed his plea last week, admitting guilt to the sexual assault charges.

He was sentenced to 12 years in prison for the assaults, with an additional five-year sentence for failing to appear at his trial. The Pinellas County State’s Attorney’s office indicated that Doyle might have received a sentence of approximately six years if he had not fled and become a fugitive. Doyle, who is a father to two teenage children, now faces the long-term consequences of his actions, which have shocked communities in both Florida and Ireland.
