Cardenden Kelty Sexual Abuser
In June 2019, a disturbing case involving Ronald Myers, a 69-year-old man from Fife, came to light through a sting operation conducted by dedicated paedophile-hunter groups. Myers, who has lived in various locations including Cardenden, Kelty, and Dysart, was found to have engaged in highly inappropriate and illegal online communications with what he believed was a 14-year-old girl. The investigation revealed that Myers had sent explicit images of himself, including a semi-erect penis, along with messages that explicitly referenced the act of making babies. One such message read, “That is what makes babies,” followed by an invitation, “You can see the real thing when you get here babe.”

These messages were part of a series of exchanges that took place between August 15th and August 21st at Myers’ then residence on Loch Leven Terrace in Kelty. The decoy profile, created by the paedophile-hunter groups ‘Children’s Guardian’ and ‘Justice for the Innocent, Scottish Division,’ was set up to mimic a 14-year-old girl named ‘Shazza’ from Birmingham. The initial contact was made via the ‘Tagged’ app and later continued through ‘WhatsApp,’ where Myers engaged in increasingly explicit conversations.

During these exchanges, Myers was led to believe he was communicating with a minor. The decoy, Miles Manning, who set up the profile, recounted that Myers had stated he wanted to look after the girl and had even invited her to move in with him. The messages included graphic content, with Myers sending footage of himself masturbating and images of his genitals. The messages also contained comments such as, “You can see the real thing when you get here babe,” and questions like, “Do you want a baby honey?”

Authorities obtained Myers’ home address as part of the investigation. On the evening of August 18th, around 7 pm, Myers’ residence was approached by members of the paedophile-hunter groups. The confrontation was streamed live on Facebook, capturing Myers’ reaction and his admissions. During the live stream, Myers admitted to having been in contact with a girl he believed to be 14 years old and expressed a desire to have her move in with him, claiming he wanted to “look after her.”

In the course of the conversation, Myers was questioned about the appropriateness of his actions. Miles Manning, speaking via a phone link, asked Myers, “You think it’s okay to ask a 14-year-old girl to go and live with you?” Myers responded, “I was going to look after her.”

Myers, who was previously a bus driver and had been divorced since 1982, appeared in Dunfermline Sheriff Court to face charges. He pleaded guilty to sending messages of a sexual nature to a person he believed was under 16, attempting to induce her to view sexual images, and sharing explicit videos and images online. The court was told that Myers had engaged in these activities at his then home in Kelty.

His defense solicitor, James Moncrieff, explained that Myers had become increasingly lonely and had started chatting online with females, believing he was speaking to a young girl. Moncrieff emphasized that Myers was disgusted by his own actions and had since moved to a different area to distance himself from the incident.

Judge Craig McSherry sentenced Myers to an 18-month supervision order and placed him on the sex offenders’ register with immediate effect. The court also ordered a report for further sentencing considerations, with Myers’ next hearing scheduled for May 7th.
