Febuary 2012 Jailed for sexually assaulting girls A 62-year-old Hindley man has been jailed after raping and sexually assaulting girls. On Tuesday, Ronald Bain, of Smithwood Avenue, was found guilty of one count of rape and 28 counts of sexual assault at Liverpool Crown Court. He was given an indeterminate sentence for public protection and must serve a minimum of nine years before he is eligible for parole. He has also signed the sex offenders register for life and made the subject of a sexual offences prevention order. Between 1985 and 2010, Bain sexually assaulted 10 children aged between five and 12 in the Hindley area. He also raped a 12-year-old girl. Detective Constable Susan Molyneux said: “Bain abused the trust the children and their parents placed in him and subjected them to a number of sexual assaults over a prolonged period of time. “The victims have all been left mentally scarred by the abuse and I hope the sentence Bain has received may go some way to helping mend these scars.”
