In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Margate, Roman Horvat, a 25-year-old man from Surrey Road, Cliftonville, was convicted and sentenced to seven years and two months in prison for a heinous sexual assault.The incident took place in the early hours of New Year’s Day 2017, when Horvat lured a 15-year-old girl into his vehicle under false pretenses.
According to court reports, the young girl was leaving a party when Horvat approached her.
He initially offered her a ride, claiming he would take her to a friend’s house.
Trusting his intentions, she agreed to get into his car.
However, instead of heading to her intended destination, Horvat drove past the location and parked his vehicle in a secluded car park in Margate.
It was there that he forcibly engaged in sexual activity with the teenage girl.
The incident was a shocking breach of trust and safety, and it drew significant attention from local authorities and the community.
Horvat, who is of Slovakian nationality, pleaded guilty to the charge of rape during the court proceedings.
His guilty plea was accepted, and he was subsequently sentenced on Tuesday, July 4, 2017.
