WOMAN BEATER WHO IMPRISONED GIRLFRIEND SENTENCED TO JAIL
A woman beater and attacker who assaulted and imprisoned his former partner, Diane Morris, in her home in Orford, St Helens, has been sentenced to jail.Roger Collins, aged 52, appeared in Liverpool Crown Court after the incident on September 3, where he became furious over a perceived insufficient payment for his deceased brother's memorial.
He shouted threats such as "I could stab you if I wanted to" before smothering Morris with a pillow belonging to her late father and punching her in the face.
Collins then followed her as she tried to escape, locking her in her home by securing the doors, removing the keys, and confiscating her mobile phone, leaving her imprisoned for hours until her son arrived.
Prosecutors revealed Collins has a troubling past involving violence against women, including three previous assaults on past girlfriends.
In 2012, he was cautioned for battery after punching his partner in the chest.
Four years later, he received a conditional discharge for another battery involving pulling a victim's hair.
Additionally, in 2016, he shoved a girlfriend into a wheelie bin, slapped her, and grabbed her by the throat.
The victim, Diane Morris, suffered soft tissue damage, bruises, soreness, and swelling to her hand and finger, requiring hospital treatment and medication for anxiety and depression.
She now lives in a new flat with added security and has created a panic room following the attack.
The court heard that Collins moved recently to Oswestry, North Wales, where he is now in a new relationship.
Judge Gary Woodhall sentenced Collins to 18 months in prison for false imprisonment and actual bodily harm, and he imposed a six-year restraining order.
The judge criticized Collins for a "complete lack of remorse" and unconvincing self-defense claims, emphasizing that Morris’s home had become unsafe and unsafe for her.
Despite acknowledgment of a traumatic childhood, his behavior was deemed unacceptable.
