CONVICTED (2018) | farmer Rodney Pascoe, born c. 1953, of Kylles, Vetham, Delabole PL33 9BZ – for cruel treatment of emaciated cows found “drowning in muck” Cornish farmer Rodney Pascoe pleaded guilty to 10 charges of animal cruelty. A complaint about Pascoe was received by the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) on 16 February 2018. He was then charged following a joint investigation between APHA, the Rural Payments Agency and Cornwall Council. Cornwall Council said the animals were found in an “awful condition” and in many cases were close to death. The authority said five cattle remained on the farm from the 22 cattle and 10 sheep that were found. It said the others were either sold, slaughtered or put down. Pascoe had until 1 November 2018 to get rid of the five remaining cattle or they were to be removed at his cost. Sentencing: 16 weeks in prison, suspended for 18 months. Costs of £4,926. Banned for life from keeping or owning farmed animals, including horses and poultry. BBC News
