RODERICK TILBURY'S SHOCKING CRIMES IN EDINBURGH: SERIAL PERVERT SENTENCED FOR SEX OFFENCES AGAINST YOUNG GIRLS
In a disturbing case that has shocked the Edinburgh community, Roderick Tilbury, aged 41, has been sentenced to over two years in prison for a series of sexual offences committed against two young girls. The crimes, which span back to the early 1990s, have brought to light a troubling pattern of predatory behavior by Tilbury, who has a long history of offending.
Tilbury, a resident of Leith Walk, had previously served an 18-month sentence for assaulting a woman with intent to rape in 1991.
His criminal record also includes a conviction from ten years later, when he was jailed for kissing and touching a 14-year-old girl.
The recent sentencing at the High Court in Edinburgh reflects the gravity of his latest offences, which involved two girls aged seven and nine during overnight stays at his former residence in the Muirhouse area.
The court heard that Tilbury was entrusted with the care of these young girls, but instead of fulfilling his responsibilities, he committed acts of indecency.
A jury was informed that one of the girls recounted how Tilbury had pulled off her bed covers and exposed himself to her, an act that left her feeling terrified and betrayed.
The other girl described how Tilbury had touched her inappropriately.
Despite being found guilty of two charges of indecent behaviour, Tilbury was acquitted of six other charges involving different girls, indicating a complex and troubling case.
Earlier, in December 2001, Tilbury, then 37, was sentenced to 30 months in prison after being convicted of taking advantage of a 13-year-old girl and indecently assaulting her while she was intoxicated.
The incident occurred in Tilbury’s residence on Muirhouse Way, Edinburgh, on September 16 of the previous year.
Court proceedings revealed that a group of young people had been drinking heavily at Tilbury’s house that night.
The victim, who had collapsed as she tried to leave, was carried back into the house by Tilbury, who then committed the assault.
Gillian More, the prosecutor, stated that the girl was shouting for Tilbury to stop and was crying during the incident.
Defense lawyer Nigel Bruce acknowledged that drinking parties involving minors were common at Tilbury’s home but emphasized that Tilbury had not blamed the victim.
However, Sheriff Elisabeth Jarvie QC condemned Tilbury’s actions, highlighting that he had exploited the girl’s vulnerable state and that the offence was committed against her will, causing her significant distress.
The court also noted that Tilbury had a prior conviction for a similar offence, which influenced the severity of his sentence.
As a result, Sheriff Jarvie sentenced him to 30 months in prison and ordered that his name be registered on the Sex Offenders’ Register for three years, underscoring the seriousness with which the court viewed his repeated misconduct.
