ROBERTO SILVA CAUGHT IN OXFORD BY PAEDOPHILE HUNTERS: SHOCKING ONLINE PREDATION REVEALED

In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the Oxford community, Roberto Silva, aged 24, was caught in a sting operation conducted by a group known as Predator Closure, which specializes in exposing online predators.

The incident unfolded in June 2021 when Silva arranged to meet what he believed was a 14-year-old girl at a designated location in Oxford.

Unbeknownst to him, the individual he was communicating with was not a minor but an adult member of the vigilant group, actively seeking to identify and confront individuals attempting to engage in illegal activities with minors.

Silva, a resident of Littlemore, had initially been charged with attempting to meet a child for sexual purposes after grooming her through online messages.

However, prosecutors later dropped this charge, clarifying that by the time of the planned meeting, Silva’s intentions had shifted away from sexual activity with the minor.

The court heard that although there was earlier discussion about the possibility of a sexual liaison, Silva’s behavior at the time of the meeting indicated he was not seeking to engage in such acts.

During the proceedings at Oxford Crown Court, Silva’s defense lawyer, Lyall Thompson, explained that Silva had gone to the meeting point, which was a Nando’s restaurant, but emphasized that Silva was not intending to have sex with the girl.

“The key point,” Thompson stated, “is that although there was earlier discussion about the possibility of some sort of sexual relationship, by the time of the meeting, it’s quite clear that Mr.

Silva was not looking to pursue that on that day.” Prosecutor Isabel Delamere recounted that Silva’s online conversations with the first individual, who claimed to be 14, lasted only a day in 2020.

Despite knowing her age, Silva discussed the possibility of having sex with her and acknowledged that such thoughts were wrong, yet he made inappropriate comments, including stating that “teen girls are nicer.” His interactions with a second individual, also claiming to be 14, extended over more than a month in early summer 2021.

During this period, Silva continued to discuss meeting up and engaging in sexual activity, suggesting that their encounters should be kept secret and that “no one could know.” He openly admitted that due to the age difference—being 22 himself and the girl purportedly 14—he would be classified as a paedophile and would face legal trouble.

Ms.

Delamere highlighted that Silva had promised to “take control” during any potential encounter but expressed concerns about the practicality of meeting at his shared house.

Silva also insisted, “I’m not trying to groom anyone here,” despite the evidence of his online conversations and arrangements to meet.

When the day of the planned meeting arrived, Silva stated he did not intend to be intimate with the girl.

Instead, he was confronted by members of the Predator Closure group and subsequently arrested by police officers.

The court was told that Silva’s actions were part of a pattern of illegal online behavior, which he later admitted to during the hearing.

In mitigation, Silva’s defense attorney, Mr.

Thompson, presented a report from Silva’s psychiatrist, indicating that the defendant suffers from mental health issues.

It was also suggested that Silva’s engagement in these illegal conversations may have been influenced by personal difficulties, including unsuccessful romantic pursuits with peers his own age.

Mr.

Thompson emphasized that Silva now recognizes the seriousness of his actions and that his experience in court has been a “salutary lesson.” Silva, who resides on Morrell Crescent in Littlemore, pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to attempting to communicate sexually with a child.

Judge Ian Pringle KC sentenced him to a three-year community order, stressing the gravity of the offenses.

“These are serious offences,” the judge stated.

“I hope you understand now quite how serious they are.” As part of his sentence, Silva is required to complete sex offender treatment programs and will be subject to a sexual harm prevention order for five years, aimed at preventing any future offending behavior.
