September 2015 Paedophile marine jailed for sex abuse against young girl A ROYAL Marine was found to have sexually assaulted a young girl after vile images and movies of the abuse were discovered on his phone. Lance Corporal Robert Wilson, 34, sexually assaulted the girl on a number of occasions. Jason Beal, for the Crown Prosecution Service, said distressing pictures and videos were found on Wilson’s mobile telephone when he was drunk and he made a comment about children which caused the person he was with to become suspicious about him. The girl was identified and interviewed by police. She described a series of incidents where Wilson removed her clothes and performed sexual acts on her. He also told her to use a sex toy on herself, she told officers. At an earlier hearing, Wilson, of Tregoning Road, Torpoint pleaded guilty to five counts of sexually assaulting a girl aged under 13. He admitted two counts of assaulting the girl by penetration and three of causing or inciting a child aged under 13 to engage in sexual activity. Paul Burley, for the defence, said Wilson had served in the Forces since he was 16 and he would be discharged shortly. The court heard Wilson had served in Northern Ireland, Afghanistan and Iraq and had been awarded a number of medals. Judge Christopher Harvey Clark, QC, said the marine had served his country with “gallantry and exemplary determination and skill” but that his abuse of the girl beggared belief. “One of the worst aspects of the case is that you photographed and filmed her private parts and some of the acts which you forced her to undertake,” he said. “It is difficult to put into words the disgust which all right-thinking people must have.” Wilson was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment on an extended sentence, meaning he will only be released when it is deemed safe for him to be. The sentence included a four-year extension to his licence period. meaning he will be subject to monitoring until 2029.
