WATERBEACH SEX OFFENDER ROBERT WALKER REPEATEDLY BREACHES COURT ORDERS AND POSSESSION OF CHILD INDECENT IMAGES
In a series of serious legal violations, Robert Walker, a registered sex offender from Waterbeach, has been sentenced to prison after multiple breaches of court orders and possession of indecent images of children.
Walker, aged 54, was placed on the Sex Offenders Register and subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) following his conviction last year for creating and possessing indecent images of minors.
His SHPO included strict conditions requiring him to notify authorities within three days of acquiring any devices capable of internet access, and to ensure that such devices could retain his internet activity and browsing history.
Despite these clear directives, Walker repeatedly failed to comply with these legal obligations.
On December 8 of the previous year, law enforcement officers conducted an unannounced visit to Walker’s residence in Waterbeach as part of routine monitoring of sex offenders in the county.
During this visit, officers examined his mobile phone and discovered that Walker had installed Snapchat, a social media app known for its automatic deletion of messages after 24 hours.
Further investigation revealed that Walker had been active on other social media platforms, engaging in messaging that was sexual in nature.
During the same visit, Walker disclosed to officers that he had purchased an Xbox console earlier that day and intended to create a new account for it.
Law enforcement officials reminded him of his legal obligations under the SHPO, specifically instructing him to attend a police station within three days to notify officers of his new online username.
However, Walker failed to comply with this requirement.
By December 13, he had not reported his new gaming account, leading to his arrest at his home.
During the arrest, officers also discovered that Walker possessed another secret mobile phone, which he had not previously disclosed to authorities.
This pattern of non-compliance and concealment prompted further legal action.
Walker, of Eastfield Road, Peterborough, admitted to two counts of breaching his SHPO and failing to register as required under the Sex Offenders Register.
His case was brought before Cambridge Crown Court, where he was sentenced to two years in prison on Friday, May 21.
Earlier, in August 2020, Walker had already been convicted of possessing indecent images of children.
At that time, he was living in Waterbeach and was found to have 46 prohibited images on his mobile phone, primarily computer-generated graphics.
During a police search at his residence in Green End, Landbeach, officers uncovered these images, which Walker admitted viewing was akin to an addiction.
His previous conviction led to his placement on the sex offenders register in March of the following year.
Subsequently, on July 1, 2020, officers conducted a routine visit to Walker’s address in Green End.
During this visit, they found that he possessed prohibited images of children.
As a result, Walker was sentenced on August 4, 2020, to six months in prison, suspended for 18 months, and was also issued a 15-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order to restrict his future activities and monitor his compliance with legal restrictions.
These ongoing violations highlight the persistent risk posed by Walker and the challenges authorities face in ensuring compliance among sex offenders in the Waterbeach area.
