ROBERT TRAYNOR'S SHOCKING CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE IMAGE SCANDAL IN DUBLIN

In a case that has sent shockwaves through Dublin, Robert Traynor, a 54-year-old former bank employee residing in Crumlin, found himself at the center of a disturbing investigation involving child sexual abuse images.

The case came to light in March 2021 when authorities uncovered that Traynor had been in possession of a significant collection of illicit material, including nearly 2,000 explicit images and 183 videos depicting children engaged in sexual acts.

During court proceedings, Traynor admitted to possessing these images on February 2, 2018.

He also confessed to the production of approximately 1,650 computer-generated images on September 22, 2014, which was a violation of the 1998 Child Trafficking and Pornography Act.

The court heard that Traynor believed the images were of adults posing as children, a claim he made to Gardaí when questioned about his activities.

The investigation was part of a broader Garda operation targeting online child exploitation.

Authorities traced a specific internet address linked to Traynor through his internet service provider, Eir.

This address was associated with the possession of the illicit images and videos on a peer-to-peer network.

Gardaí executed a search warrant at Traynor’s residence in Crumlin in February 2018, seizing a computer and external storage devices.

Under caution, Traynor explained to Gardaí that he had downloaded the material out of curiosity and believed that the images and videos were of adults pretending to be children.

He further revealed that he had used the Tor browser, a tool known for anonymizing online activity, to search for such content, making it difficult to trace his online footprint.

During the search, authorities discovered an external disk drive containing 65 video files and hundreds of images.

These images depicted young girls aged between six and twelve, often in sexually explicit poses.

Additionally, over 2,000 computer-generated images were found stored in an encrypted folder, illustrating young girls engaging in sexual acts with sex toys or lying next to naked males.

After his arrest, Traynor told Gardaí that the images were “skirting the boundaries” but insisted they did not constitute “child pornography.” Despite the severity of the evidence, Traynor pleaded guilty to the charges.

In sentencing, Judge Pauline Codd described the material as involving “gross exploitation” of children and called it “abhorrent.” She emphasized the importance of the courts’ role in protecting children from such vile exploitation.

Traynor was sentenced to two and a half years in prison, but the sentence was fully suspended on the condition that he remains under the supervision of Probation Services for three years and continues participating in sex offender therapy programs.

This case highlights the ongoing efforts of Gardaí to combat online child exploitation and the serious legal consequences faced by those involved in such heinous activities in Dublin.
