ROBERT TAYLOR FROM STOKE-ON-TRENT FINED FOR KILLING GOSLING IN HIS BATH
In a recent case that has drawn attention in Stoke-on-Trent, Robert Taylor, born around 1988 and residing at Standersfoot Place, Chell Heath, was found guilty of a disturbing incident involving a wild bird.The incident came to light when police responded to reports at Taylor's residence on June 12, 2023, after receiving information about a possible animal welfare concern.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered a small, dead gosling submerged in a bath filled with a modest amount of water.
The bird's presence in the bath was unusual and prompted immediate investigation.
Taylor was promptly arrested at the scene and taken into custody for questioning.
During his police interview, Taylor explained that he had taken the gosling from a nearby canal towpath, believing he was acting in the best interest of the bird.
He stated that his intention was to contact animal welfare organizations such as the RSPCA or the RSPB to seek help for the distressed bird.
However, he admitted that he did not actually notify either organization.
He further revealed that after bringing the gosling home, he placed it in a bath of water and then proceeded to consume alcohol.
According to Taylor, he was too intoxicated at the time to make any calls or take further action.
He explained that he fell asleep, woke up to find the bird in the bath, and chose not to intervene.
By the time he regained consciousness again, the gosling had died, and police officers had already arrived at his home.
Taylor pleaded guilty to the charge of taking a wild bird, which is an offense under wildlife protection laws.
His sentencing included a fine of £250, along with an additional £100 in costs and a £100 surcharge.
The case has raised concerns about animal welfare and the responsibilities of individuals when encountering wild animals in distress.
