March 2013 Child molester jailed for further four years A PERVERT who molested two children over a 14 year period was snared because his victims read a newspaper article which revealed that he was jailed for abusing other youngsters. Robert Tait, 64, was caught after his victims saw a story which detailed the fact that he was jailed at Edinburgh Sheriff Court in October 2011 for abusing another two children. Today the High Court in Edinburgh heard people who were abused by Tait then plucked up enough courage to tell police about their own ordeals as he was jailed for a further four years. Stunned detectives then heard how Tait, 64, abused his victim, a six-year-old girl, in November 1980, at an address in Edinburgh. He continued to abuse the girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, until she turned 13. He also began abusing a 10-year-old boy at an address in the city in January 1990. The court heard how Tait would force the child to watch pornographic films and perform sex acts in front of him. The abuse against the boy, who also cannot be named for legal reasons, continued until January 1994. The story emerged after Tait, a prisoner of HMP Saughton, pleaded guilty to two charges of lewd, indecent, and libidinous practices, before judge Lord Burns at a hearing at the High Court in Edinburgh last month. Sentence was deferred until today in order for the court to obtain reports about his character. Advocate Depute Peter McCormack told the court that Tait was jailed for two years in October 2011 at Edinburgh Sheriff Court for abusing two girls between October 1990 and March 1996. Lord Burns deferred sentence on Tait in order for the court to obtain reports about his character. He will be sentenced on March.
