Russell's arrest was made on Thursday, April 7, 2016, following a report to the police that detailed the disturbing incidents. According to law enforcement sources, Russell had lured the young boy into his home using offers of cash and sweets, a tactic often employed by predators to gain the trust of their victims. Once inside, Russell committed multiple acts of sexual assault against the boy, acts that would leave lasting scars.

During the court proceedings, Russell pleaded guilty to charges of indecent assault, acknowledging his misconduct. The case was heard at Maidstone Crown Court on Wednesday, November 8, where the judge sentenced him to nearly five years behind bars.
