SEX ABUSER SWIMMING COACH ROBERT RIXON JAILED 25 YEARS
A 75-year-old swimming instructor has received a 25-year prison sentence after being convicted of sexually abusing students he taught.Robert Rixon, located in Porthcawl within Bridgend county, was found guilty on 28 counts of sexual assault, including a charge of rape.
His victims included three girls aged between 11 and 13 at Porthcawl Comprehensive School, and he committed further offenses at another educational institution years later.
The initial victim came forward in 2018, prompting four more to identify themselves.
Originally, Rixon’s misconduct occurred between 2000 and 2005, but he later used a pool at Heronsbridge School from 2013 to 2015 to operate a lifesaving club, during which he assaulted two additional girls of similar ages.
An investigation was initiated three years after one survivor disclosed her abuse, leading authorities to identify four more victims and uncover a range of serious sexual misconduct.
South Wales Police detective Sergeant Tony Daniel praised the courage of the victims, stating, “Seeing Rixon imprisoned provides hope for these women to move forward, knowing justice has been served for his reprehensible crimes.” He further emphasized that support remains available for all victims and urged anyone affected, regardless of when the abuse occurred, to come forward.
