ROBERT PALMER SENTENCED IN GLASGOW FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT AND RACIAL ABUSE CASES
In a disturbing series of incidents in Glasgow, Robert Palmer, a 23-year-old man, has been convicted and sentenced for multiple serious offences involving a young girl and two women. The first incident occurred in March 2018 in the Springburn area of Glasgow, where Palmer engaged in alcohol consumption with a 12-year-old girl.
During this encounter, he proceeded to kiss her on a bus, an act that would later be classified as a sexual assault.
According to court proceedings, the girl was reported missing by her father, who was supposed to be caring for her that day.
The police became involved after the incident was captured on CCTV footage, which provided crucial evidence.
The girl’s friend, who was also present on the bus, was subject to further police questioning due to other unrelated matters.
It was through these interviews that the full account of the events emerged, revealing Palmer’s inappropriate conduct.
Palmer later admitted to the police that he believed the girl was 17 years old at the time of the incident, a claim that was contradicted by her actual age.
He pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting the young girl, acknowledging his misconduct in court.
More than two years after this initial offence, Palmer was involved in a separate and more heinous series of acts at a flat in Glasgow’s Germiston district.
There, he sexually assaulted and racially abused two women, both aged 23.
During this incident, Palmer forcibly groped one woman in a broom cupboard and attempted to kiss the other.
His aggression escalated when he brandished a knife at both victims, threatening them with violence.
During the assault, Palmer shouted racial slurs, including “black b******s,” and made animal noises, further demonstrating his hostility and malicious intent.
His actions were not only sexually violent but also racially motivated, adding a disturbing layer to his criminal profile.
In February, Palmer pleaded guilty to these sexual assaults and racial abuse charges.
On Friday, he was sentenced in Glasgow Sheriff Court.
The court handed down a sentence of 81 days in jail for the bus kissing incident, and a more severe term of 18 months for the later offences.
Additionally, Palmer was ordered to register as a sex offender for a period of seven years.
Sheriff Paul Crozier addressed the court, stating, “As you have acknowledged, due to the nature of these offences and your previous convictions, there is no other appropriate method of dealing with you other than prison.” The case highlights the serious consequences of Palmer’s actions and underscores the importance of justice for the victims involved.
