LEICESTER BOXING COACH ROBERT MOSELEY SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULTS ON TEENAGE GIRL
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Leicester, a former boxing coach named Robert Moseley has been convicted of multiple sexual assaults against a young teenage girl. The incidents, which spanned over an 18-month period, involved Moseley repeatedly abusing the girl, who was underage at the time, treating her as his personal 'sexual plaything.' According to court proceedings, Moseley's victim was a vulnerable teenager when the assaults took place.
The court heard that during certain periods, Moseley sexually assaulted her several times each week, exploiting her youth and innocence.
The girl, who was in her early teens, was subjected to this abuse in Leicester, where Moseley resided at Bowhill Grove, Thurnby Lodge.
When the girl finally found the courage to report the abuse to the authorities, Moseley vehemently denied her allegations.
Her testimony was crucial in the trial held at Leicester Crown Court, where she was compelled to give evidence against her former coach.
The trial concluded earlier this month with Moseley being found guilty of two counts of sexual assault.
These charges were linked to hundreds of separate incidents, illustrating the extent and severity of his misconduct.
On Friday, Moseley, aged 55, faced sentencing before Judge Timothy Spencer at Leicester Crown Court.
The judge described the nature of the crimes as particularly heinous, emphasizing the frequency and vulnerability involved.
He stated, “This was an assault upon a vulnerable victim and happened with a worrying frequency – it was all the time.
You thought you could use her as some sort of sexual plaything.” Judge Spencer further condemned Moseley's actions, highlighting the profound impact on the victim.
“It’s not surprising this has had a huge impact upon her,” he remarked.
“You derived sexual gratification from this.
This was a young woman going through puberty.
It is a truly awful thing that you visited upon her.” The judge also noted a lack of remorse from Moseley, describing him as displaying arrogance during the proceedings.
Prior to sentencing, Moseley's legal representative, Helen Johnson, revealed that her client had attempted to take his own life amid the allegations, which he continues to deny.
She explained, “There’s nothing I can say about the offences as his position remains as it was.
He was arrested on April 16, 2017, and has had to live with this hanging over him.
Mr Moseley’s life ended as he had known it.
He has suffered from some mental health issues and there has been a suicide attempt.” During his sentencing, Judge Spencer acknowledged the emotional toll on the victim, stating, “You say this has hung over you for two years – it has hung over her for two years.
You fought the trial in front of a jury and put her through having to relive all of this.” As a result, Moseley was sentenced to two and a half years in prison.
Additionally, he was subjected to a 10-year sexual harm prevention order to restrict his contact with minors.
Following the sentencing, the victim, speaking to LeicestershireLive, expressed her pain and frustration, especially regarding Moseley's denial of the allegations.
She shared, “Back when it was happening I couldn’t tell anyone because I was just a kid and I didn’t think anyone would believe me – he’d deny it all and everyone would call me a liar.” She described her mental health at the time as being in a very fragile state, with no friends or social life, and said, “It was terrible because I could see no way out of it.
When it was happening, the only end to it I could imagine was waiting till he died and outing him at his funeral.” She added that her decision to come forward was driven by her fear that Moseley might harm other children.
“Later on my mental health started getting really bad and I was panicking about what he might do to other kids.
I came forward about this because I couldn’t let him do it to someone else – I had to limit his access to kids.”
