ROBERT MAY BANNED IN ABERGELE FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY DOWNLOADS AT COLLEGE

In June 2010, Robert James Kenneth May, a 42-year-old mature student from Abergele, found himself at the center of a serious legal case involving the possession and distribution of indecent images of children. The incident unfolded at Coleg Llandrillo in Abergele, where staff members noticed suspicious behavior from May while he was using a college computer.

According to reports, May was observed acting furtively and browsing certain websites that raised suspicion among the college staff. Concerned about his conduct, they promptly contacted law enforcement authorities. When police arrived, they conducted a search of May’s digital devices and discovered that he had stored 78 indecent images on his computer’s pen drive. These images included photographs of children in swimwear, which are considered illegal and highly inappropriate.

During police questioning, May admitted to his actions, describing his behavior as “stupid.” He was subsequently charged with five counts of making indecent images of children, with the offenses spanning from July 30, 2006, to March 11, 2009. These charges were formally acknowledged during an earlier court hearing.

In a subsequent court session, District Judge Andrew Shaw delivered a stern sentence. May was ordered to undergo a three-year supervision order, which involves monitoring his activities and ensuring compliance with legal restrictions. Additionally, he was required to pay £85 in court costs. The judge also imposed a five-year Sexual Offences Prevention Order under the Sexual Offences Act, which significantly restricts May’s future conduct regarding indecent material.

Under this order, May is explicitly prohibited from taking, making, possessing, distributing, or downloading any pornographic or indecent images. Furthermore, he is barred from obstructing police access to his digital media and computer equipment, and he must allow authorities to examine any devices he uses. The order also forbids him from installing software that could potentially wipe or delete material from his devices.

As part of the court’s ruling, May’s Acer laptop, along with an integral memory stick and three pen drives, were ordered to be forfeited and destroyed. This measure aims to prevent any further dissemination or possession of illegal images, reinforcing the seriousness with which such offenses are treated in the legal system.
