ROBERT KERR FROM FIFE AND PEMBROKE DOCK SENTENCED FOR HORRIFIC CHILD RAPE CRIMES
In a chilling case that has sent shockwaves through the communities of Fife and Pembroke Dock, Robert Kerr, aged 51, was convicted of a series of heinous crimes involving the sexual abuse of young children spanning several years.The court proceedings, held at the High Court in Edinburgh, revealed a disturbing pattern of predatory behavior that took place at various addresses in Cowdenbeath and Burntisland, both located within Fife.
According to court records, Kerr repeatedly assaulted two teenage sisters between the years 1979 and 1983.
The abuse was not limited to these two victims; Kerr was also found guilty of indecent behavior and indecent assault against three other minors.
The details of the case painted a picture of a man who exploited his position and trust to commit acts of unimaginable cruelty against vulnerable children.
Kerr, a former taxi driver with a prior conviction for indecency, attempted to deny the allegations, claiming that his accusers were fabricating stories to tarnish his reputation.
However, the evidence presented in court was overwhelming.
One of the victims, who was just six or seven years old at the time, recounted how Kerr had woken her up and taken her downstairs under the pretense of watching cartoons.
Instead of the innocent activity she expected, Kerr subjected her to a sexual assault on the floor of her home.
Another victim, now 33, testified that Kerr had smirked as he coerced her into performing an indecent act with her younger sister when she was only three years old.
The court also heard that Kerr had made two teenage girls touch each other inappropriately.
One of the victims, who underwent six years of counseling due to Kerr’s assaults, described how Kerr’s enjoyment seemed to increase if she resisted during the attacks.
Her sister, now 37, revealed that she had kept her ordeal secret for many years, even when Kerr was fined £150 in the 1980s for indecency against her.
The case only came to light after a police investigation into Kerr’s activities, which ultimately uncovered a reign of terror that spanned decades.
Kerr, who was residing in Pembroke Dock at the time of his arrest, was found guilty of multiple charges related to his abuse at addresses in Fife.
The court heard how Kerr’s actions had left deep psychological scars on his victims, some of whom had endured years of suffering before finally finding the courage to come forward.
Judge Lord Wheatley sentenced Kerr to 14 years in prison, following a period of deferred sentencing to allow for background reports to be prepared.
Kerr’s release is scheduled for today, December 6, 2013, and he will be staying in a bail hostel in Monmouthshire while serving his sentence.
The case has highlighted the importance of vigilance and the need for continued efforts to protect children from predators like Kerr, whose crimes have left a lasting impact on the victims and their families.
