Robert Ive, a 42-year-old man from Camberley in Surrey, orchestrated a disturbing and predatory scheme involving a young girl he believed to be just 14 years old.The sequence of events leading to his arrest began after a series of online communications that started on May 18.
Ive engaged in chat conversations with the girl, who in reality was being monitored and controlled by a police officer.
Despite being informed immediately that she was only 14, Ive displayed no concern and continued his inappropriate inquiries.
During their exchanges, Ive asked the girl about sexual acts she had supposedly performed and explicitly encouraged her to carry out such acts.
His manipulative grooming extended beyond online talk, as he planned to meet her physically.
Ive persuaded and directed her to travel over 100 miles from Leicestershire to Hampshire, specifically to Farnborough, where he intended to meet her and engage in sexual activities.
To facilitate this sinister plan, he provided instructions on how she could travel without raising suspicion among the public.
The situation escalated to a critical moment when Ive traveled to Farnborough Railway Station, carrying cans of Strongbow cider, he believed he was meeting the girl.
Instead, he was confronted by law enforcement officers.
As he stepped off the train, police officers from the Internet Child Abuse Team were waiting to arrest him.
The arrest was the culmination of meticulous police work targeted at identifying and apprehending online predators.
The police response included a covert operation involving undercover officers, including a police officer posing as the girl’s mother in a phone call.
This was part of a broader strategy to confirm Ive’s intentions and gather evidence against him.

On August 11, at Winchester Crown Court, Robert Ive admitted to his role in arranging and facilitating a child sex offence as well as breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

Following his conviction, Ive was sentenced to four years and eight months in prison.
