ROBERT HEDLEY FROM LLANYMYNECH SENTENCED AFTER SEXUAL ASSAULT AT LOCAL PUB
In December 2020, a serious incident involving a local pub landlord from Llanymynech captured public attention and led to a significant legal outcome.Robert Hedley, aged 57, was found guilty of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl in his pub, the Bradford Arms, located on North Road in Llanymynech.
The case was brought before Shrewsbury Crown Court, where the jury delivered a verdict of guilt in October of that year.
The court proceedings revealed disturbing details of the incident that took place in June 2018.
It was established that Hedley had forcibly engaged with the young girl, kissing her without her consent.
The court heard that Hedley had groomed the girl prior to the assault, engaging in inappropriate sexual touching and molestation.
Throughout the ordeal, he repeatedly made sexual innuendos and remarks, further violating her boundaries and trust.
Despite the gravity of the accusations, Hedley was not sentenced to prison.
Instead, the court opted for a community-based punishment, handing him an 18-month community order.
As part of his sentence, Hedley is required to participate in the Maps for Change programme, which is designed for sex offenders, along with completing 25 days of rehabilitation activities aimed at addressing his behavior.
Additionally, Hedley was ordered to pay prosecution costs amounting to £3,000, and a victim surcharge was also imposed.
