ROBERT GABBOTT AND HIS SHOCKING CHILD INDECENCY OFFENSES IN WILTSHIRE
A former police officer from Wiltshire has confessed to serious crimes involving the possession and distribution of indecent images of children.Robert Gabbott, aged 64 and commonly known as Bob, appeared before Swindon Magistrates’ Court where he pleaded guilty to multiple charges associated with the possession and dissemination of these vile materials.
Gabbott, who is married and residing at Elizabeth Close in Melksham, faced allegations that linked him to a disturbing collection of hundreds of exploitative images.
During the court proceedings in late November, the judge ordered him to register as a sex offender within 72 hours, highlighting the severity of the charges.
The magistrates determined that the case involved offences of a nature too grave to be handled at the magistrate level, leading to its transfer to Swindon Crown Court for a more comprehensive hearing.
Gabbott's sentencing has been scheduled for January 2023.
It was revealed that Gabbott was not only a former member of the Wiltshire police but also actively involved in community service activities, such as being a member of the Wiltshire Freemasons and assisting with marshaling at the Melksham vaccination centre.
Despite these seemingly positive community roles, he admitted to two charges specifically linked to distributing indecent images of children, categorized as A and B.
In addition to these distribution charges, he also confessed to three counts related to the creation or collection of such illicit images.
This included the possession of 200 images categorized under Category A, which involves the most severe types of abuse including images with penetrative sexual acts, along with 199 images in Category B, depicting non-penetrative sexual activities.
Furthermore, Gabbott admitted to possessing 457 images classified as Category C, which comprises less graphic content but still involves explicit material.
The offences in question took place over a period spanning from September 18, 2021, to January 14, 2022.
Following his guilty pleas, Gabbott was released on unconditional bail, awaiting his future sentencing hearing.
His case underscores the serious nature of child exploitation crimes and the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to bring such offenders to justice, regardless of their previous positions or community standing.
