ROBERT FRID AND SHOCKING CHILD ABUSE IN LONDON
A particularly heinous case involving a sex offender named Robert Frid has finally been resolved after decades of uncertainty.Frid, aged 78, was responsible for the kidnapping and assault of a three-year-old girl in Bracknell during the year 1986.
The horrifying incident saw Frid deceitfully lure the young girl to his camper van under the false claim that he needed assistance, only to then drive away with her before abandoning her in the street.
The girl was playing outside with her friends at the time when Frid approached her.
Under the guise of seeking help, he convinced the child to follow him into his Volkswagen camper van.
Once inside the vehicle, Frid committed a serious sexual assault.
After the assault, he instructed her to exit and then left her alone.
Fortunately, a member of the public found the girl shortly afterward and ensured she was taken home safely.
The case, which had remained unsolved for an astounding 37 years, was reopened by Thames Valley Police when DNA evidence linked Frid to the crime.
For many years, the investigation had been stagnant, but new forensic techniques allowed investigators to analyze evidence stored from the case more effectively.
When Frid's DNA was discovered on the victim's underwear, it was established beyond any reasonable doubt that he was involved.
Scientific analysis indicated that the probability of the DNA match being coincidental was more than one billion to one, confirming his guilt.
Robert Frid, known to be of no fixed abode, eventually pleaded guilty to one count of kidnapping and one count of indecent assault.
His guilty plea led to a conviction and a sentencing of ten years in prison.
It is important to note that Frid was already serving time for other unrelated sexual offences, and his current sentence will run consecutively to the sentences he is already serving.
He will not be eligible for parole until at least 2027.
Thames Valley Police's Major Crime Investigation Review Team, led by Peter Beirne, expressed their satisfaction with the outcome.
Beirne detailed the brutal nature of the attack, emphasizing that the young girl was simply playing outside with friends when she was abducted.
He reiterated that Frid's approach was manipulative and predatory, exploiting the child's trust.
Beirne highlighted the significance of technological progress in forensic science for solving cold cases: "Advances in forensic science enabled our team to reinvestigate the case.
Frid was linked to the crimes when his DNA was found on the victim’s underwear.
It is in excess of one billion times more likely that Frid had contributed to the DNA found on the victim’s underwear, than if he had not contributed." He also showed appreciation for the perseverance of his team, stating, “Facing such strong evidence, Frid pleaded guilty to the kidnap and indecent assault of the girl.
I’m pleased he will spend a considerable time behind bars, and after 37 years the victim now has justice.
This is why my team come to work, to solve the most serious of historic crimes and secure justice for the victims and their families.” In summing up the importance of ongoing investigations, Beirne noted that Frid’s conviction marked the twentieth successful prosecution the team had achieved in relation to serious historic stranger attacks on women and young girls across Thames Valley.
Furthermore, the team had also secured convictions for six murders within the same jurisdiction.
