ROBERT CHASTON FROM COVENTRY SENTENCED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY OFFENSES IN WARWICK
In June 2017, Robert Chaston, a 65-year-old resident of Juckers Road, Longford, Coventry, was once again brought before the courts in connection with serious offenses involving child exploitation images. This case marked a disturbing recurrence of his criminal behavior, which had previously resulted in a jail sentence for similar offenses.
Chaston’s latest conviction stemmed from a police investigation that uncovered his involvement in accessing and downloading illicit material from the internet.
Authorities had received intelligence indicating that a specific online forum, known for hosting child-related content, had been accessed from IP addresses linked to both his home and workplace.
This information prompted a thorough investigation into his digital activities.
On the day of his arrest, officers executed a search at his place of employment, where they seized two mobile phones and a Kindle device.
Subsequent inspection of these devices revealed a disturbing collection of indecent images of children.
The images were classified into different categories based on their severity and content.
Among them, 21 images were categorized as Category A, depicting young girls, some as young as three or four, being subjected to penetrative sexual acts.
These images included girls up to the age of 13, highlighting the disturbing nature of the material.
In addition, there were 32 images classified as Category B, some of which were found on Chaston’s Kindle.
These images showed girls as young as two years old engaged in non-penetrative sexual activities.
Furthermore, authorities discovered 80 images in Category C, which depicted young girls in naked or semi-naked poses, but without explicit sexual acts.
The search terms used by Chaston, such as “young girl sex” and “tiny girls,” revealed his intent and interest in such material.
The investigation also uncovered extreme pornography involving women participating in sex acts with animals, adding to the severity of his offenses.
It was noted that Chaston’s criminal history included a previous conviction in 2003, when he was jailed for six months for four offenses related to making indecent images of children.
When questioned about his latest offenses, Chaston admitted that he had resumed his offending behavior following the advent of smartphones, which made access to such material easier.
His actions prompted a serious legal response, culminating in his sentencing.
At Warwick Crown Court, Recorder Kevin Hegarty QC sentenced Chaston to a year in prison.
During the hearing, the judge emphasized the gravity of his crimes and the impact on his family.
He pointed out that Chaston’s own family, including his grandchildren, had disowned him as a consequence of his actions, which the judge described as a form of punishment more severe than any custodial sentence could impose.
Additionally, Chaston was ordered to register as a sex offender for ten years, reflecting the ongoing risk he poses to society and the importance of monitoring his conduct in the future.
