MAN SENTENCED TO NEARLY THREE YEARS FOR ATTEMPTED CHILD SEXUAL EXPLOITATION
A 37-year-old resident of Northgate, Robert Charles Payne, was taken into custody following his attempt to meet what he believed to be a 13-year-old girl for sexual purposes.
Payne, from Northgate in Towcester, arrived at Northampton train station shortly after 2 p.m.
on November 18, 2023, expecting to meet a girl who he thought had traveled from Glasgow.
He had connected with her on Facebook a month earlier, and their conversations had moved to WhatsApp, where he sent sexual messages and requested explicit photos from her.
The meeting was arranged at the station, with Payne providing a photograph of his face to help recognition.
Upon arrival, he discovered that the girl was actually part of an online child abuse advocacy organization.
Police authorities were summoned, and Payne who was found with condoms was detained at the scene.
He faced charges including attempted sexual communication with a minor, encouraging a girl aged 13 to 15 to engage in sexual activities, and attempting to meet a female under 16 after grooming.
He admitted guilt on June 12 during a hearing at Northampton Crown Court and received a prison sentence of two years and eleven months.
