GRIMSBY MAN ROBERT BELLAMY EXPOSES HIMSELF IN BUCKDEN AND IS PUT ON SEX OFFENDER REGISTER
In a series of disturbing incidents that took place in Buckden between September 2007 and February 2008, Robert Bellamy, a 56-year-old man from Grimsby, was found guilty of exposing himself on four separate occasions. The court proceedings revealed a pattern of unsettling behavior by Bellamy, who would often stop his vehicle to ask elderly women for directions while simultaneously exposing himself from behind the wheel.
These incidents caused considerable distress among the victims, with the first reported case occurring in September at the junction of Church Street and Buckden High Street.
A 70-year-old woman was the first to come forward, describing how Bellamy's actions left her feeling shocked and vulnerable.
Over the following months, two more elderly women, aged 82 and 80, became victims when Bellamy approached them asking for directions to Buckden’s chemist, engaging in the same inappropriate behavior.
The situation escalated when a 39-year-old woman, on February 5, 2008, observed Bellamy exposing himself in a parked car in Buckden.
She took note of his vehicle’s license plate and promptly reported the incident to the police.
The authorities acted swiftly, questioning Bellamy and uncovering his involvement in the earlier offenses.
During police interviews, Bellamy admitted to the incidents, confirming his pattern of behavior.
It is believed that Bellamy, who works as a logistics control worker, would often stop in Buckden on his way to or from his workplace in Bedford, using these stops as opportunities to carry out his inappropriate acts.
His actions not only caused distress to the victims but also raised concerns about public safety in the area.
Representing Bellamy, solicitor David Potter, stated that his client was unable to provide any explanation for his conduct.
He also noted that the court appearances and the ongoing legal proceedings were having a severe impact on Bellamy’s mental well-being.
Despite the gravity of his actions, Bellamy’s wife of 32 years expressed her disgust but indicated her continued support for him.
In sentencing, the magistrates ordered Bellamy to pay each of his four victims £100 in compensation, along with £85 in prosecution costs.
Additionally, he was mandated to sign the sex offender’s register for a period of five years.
To address his behavior and prevent future offenses, Bellamy was also given a three-year community order, emphasizing the seriousness with which the court viewed his actions and the need for rehabilitation.
