October 2007 PAEDOPHILE JAILED FOR INTERNET CHILD PORN An East Dulwich paedophile, who tried to kill himself before being arrested for trading in child porn over the internet, has been jailed for eighteen months. Robert Beaney, 66, of Norcroft Gardens, was hospitalised for almost two weeks having stabbed himself in the stomach twice with a kitchen knife as undercover police raided his house. British Police, working in cooperation with an undercover operation in the USA, caught Beaney with over 1500 images bought from American paedophiles, which he was selling on within the UK. More than 50 were described by the Metropolitan Polices Paedophile Unit as being of the highest level of indecency. Having been given eighteen months by Southwark Crown Court on Friday,  October 19, Beaney will be put on the sex offenders’ register for ten years. Detective Constable Walker, of the Met’s Paedophile Unit, said: “Those that trade in these images show a complete disregard for the vulnerable youngsters who may be harmed and abused through the production of these images. “The Met’s Paedophile Unit will continue to target anyone who cause children to suffer in this way. This case shows our continued commitment to tackling those who fuel this trade. This case should send out a clear deterrent message to anyone who believes that the internet is a suitably anonmyous place to illegally target children. They should know that these crimes are monitored and enforced by covert police officers every day.”
